CHINA, Qianlong period (1736-1795). Important covered vase in pale celadon jade, decorated with figures in landscapes. Of quadrangular baluster form, the body slightly angular and resting on a flared foot. The four sides are carved in high relief with lotus flowers surrounded by flowers, palms and foliage, the neck with the same pattern, two handles on either side of the neck topped with stylized taotie masks holding mobile rings. The edge of the neck and the edge of the lid incised with a Greek motif, the lid decorated with a lotus blossom and geometric motifs. H_ 32.7 cm W_16.5 cm D_8.5 cm Provenance : A Belgian shipowner, having brought it back from China in the 19th century.
