FABRE (Jean-Henri). [Collection of ancient texts in verse or prose]. Autograph manuscript. S.l.n.d. ca. 1850], 6 pp. in-8 on two double leaves. INTERESTING MANUSCRIPT WITH THE EVOLUTION OF THE ROMANO-PROVENCAL LANGUAGE BETWEEN THE 10th AND 15th CENTURIES. Divided into 6 parts, this manuscript contains, for each century studied, one poem or text in Provençal, followed by its translation into French. It begins with a poem by Boèce, the famous Latin philosopher, presented here in a 10th century version; it is followed by an extract from "La Nobla Leyczon", an anonymous poem written in ancient Occitan and which constitutes the fundamental text of the Waldensian Church (11th century). This is followed by a poem by Richard the Lionheart, Duke of Aquitaine and later King of England, famous in his day for his compositions in Occitan (12th century). The following period is represented by an aubade by the Provençal troubadour Bertrand d'Alamanon (13th century). Then comes a poem dedicated to Dona Clemença (14th century) and finally an extract from the States of Provence under King René (15th century). These extracts were copied by Fabre in Mary-Lafon's work, Tableau historique et littéraire de la langue parlée dans le Midi de la France et connue sous le nom de langue romano-provençale, Paris, Maffre-Capin, 1842, pp. 121 to 153.
