FABRE (Jean-Henri). Heaven. Elementary Lessons on Cosmography. Autograph manuscript. S.l.n.d. 1864-1865], 307 pp. in-folio (28.8 x 19.5 cm), in sheets, central fold, traces of dust and handling on some leaves. ALMOST COMPLETE MANUSCRIPT OF THE SKY PUBLISHED IN 1867. Professor of physics from 1849 to 1870, first in Ajaccio, then in Avignon, Jean-Henri Fabre wrote, from 1860 onwards, didactic works concerning chemistry, physics, astronomy, mathematics and natural sciences. The present manuscript includes 24 lessons (out of 25 published), numbered from 1 to 15 and from 17 to 25. They have been copied mostly on double numbered sheets, the numbering being specific to each lesson. The names of the typographers have been noted, as well as the number of lines. The manuscript is divided as follows: 1st lesson. Geometry (10 pp.). - 2. the Survey of the Earth (10 pp.). - 3) How the Earth is weighed (11 pp.). - 4. the Earth's rotation (10 pp.). - 5. Centrifugal force and inertia (11 pp.). - 6. Celestial poles and latitude (13 pp.; on the back of the last page: "M. Fabre, professor at the Imperial High School of Avignon, Vaucluse"). - 7 Time and longitude (14 pp.). - 8 The illumination of the atmosphere (11 pp.). - Atmospheric refraction (9 pp.). - 10. Inaccessible distances (12 pp.). - 11. An excursion to the Moon (20 pp.). - 12. The Earth as seen from the Moon (8 pp.; ink stains on the last page). - 13. The phases of the Moon (13 pp.). - 14. Eclipses (15 pp.). - 15. The Sun (20 pp.). - 17. The calendar (12 pp.). - 18. The solar system (13 pp.). - 19. The planets (15 pp.). - 20. The planets (continued; 14 pp.). - 21.
