Each chapter ends with a detailed questionnaire that allows the teacher to make sure that the students have assimilated the lesson. In the margin, Fabre has added references to works on natural history or zoology written by various authors (Montmahou, Focillon, Milne-Edwards) or by himself (Les Auxiliaires, 1873). The names of the typographers have been added in the margin as well as the number of lines. This manuscript was published under the title: "Cours complet d'instruction élémentaire. Zoologie," Paris, Ch. Delagrave, 1876. The work was a great success as it was used in teaching (primary and secondary schools) for nearly twenty-five years. Cf.
