FABRE (Jean-Henri). The Skeleton. Autograph manuscript. S.l.n.d. 1881], 2 pp. in-folio (28.4 x19.3 cm), printed vignette pasted in the margin. MANUSCRIPT OF ANATOMY AND ZOOLOGY. It begins as follows: "The skeleton is the framework supporting the edifice of the body in the animals which, for structure, occupy the front row. The pieces that make it up are the bones" and ends with : "Mammals, birds, reptiles, lizards and snakes, amphibians, frogs and toads, and fish are vertebrate animals". The engraved vignette represents a vertebra. This manuscript was published in two of Fabre's books published the same year: Eléments d'histoire naturelle des animaux and Les animaux, Paris, Ch. Delagrave, 1881, where it forms part of chapter XVI (Différences entre les animaux. Animaux ayant des os ou des arêtes). See Cambefort, L'oeuvre de Jean-Henri Fabre, p. 133.
