[FABRE (Jean-Henri)]. Physics class. Fourth year class. Manuscript. S.l.n.d. 1886], 102 pp. in-folio (29 x 19.6 cm), in sheets, many printed pages bound with pins and bearing handwritten corrections, central fold. J.-H. FABRE'S LAST PHYSICS COURSE. From 1882 onwards, Fabre redesigned his physics course for special secondary education to take account of the new curriculum. A new revision took place in 1886, which enabled the publisher Delagrave to publish updated textbooks in 1887. The present manuscript is not in Fabre's hand, but it is presented as his own manuscripts, with a central fold and the title copied on the back of the last page of each chapter. It was probably composed under his direction by a close relative or a member of his family, perhaps his son François-Emile, the author being at the time occupied with the writing of the Souvenirs entomologiques. It is divided as follows: Part One: Notions of Physical Mechanics. Chap. I. Forces (3 pp.) - II. Movement (1 p.) - III. Notions on the work of forces (3 pp.) - Part II: On gravity. Chap. I. Centre of gravity (1 p.) - II. Laws of falling bodies (5 pp.) - III. Pendulum (5 pp.) - Third part: Hydrostatics. Chap. I. Compressibility of liquids (1 p.) - II. Balance of liquids subtracted from the action of gravity (1 p.) - III. Balance of liquids under the action of gravity (10 pp.) - IV. Density of solids and liquids (9 pp.) - Fourth part: Gases. Chap. I. General properties of gases (7 pp.) - II. Elasticity of gases (11 pp.) - III. Devices based on the properties of air. Pneumatic machines (5 pp.) - Part five: Heat. Chap. I. Expansion of solids (4 pp.) - II. Expansion of liquids (5 pp.) - III. Expansion of gases (7 pp.) - IV. Gas density (4 pp.) - V. Calorimetry (4 pp.) - VI. Latent heat (1 pp.) - VII. Mechanical heat sources (1 p.) - VIII. Notions on the mechanical theory of heat (5 pp.) - IX. Heat released by chemical actions (1 p.) - X. Notions of the
