FABRE (Jean-Henri). Autograph letter signed... - Lot 26 - Métayer-Mermoz Maison de Ventes aux Enchères Paris
FABRE (Jean-Henri). Autograph letter signed [to a creditor]. Sérignan, February 1, 1881, 2/3 p. in-8, traces of folds, freckles. SHORT NOTE RELATING TO A DEBT. "I have the honor of sending you the sum of one hundred francs, interest on the sum that I owe to Mr. Chambaud. Please send me a receipt. Here's a postage stamp for the letter." It could be Gustave Chambaud, mayor of Orange from 1860 to 1862, or a relative of his. Fabre had resided in this town from 1870 to 1879, before settling in the Harmas de Sérignan-du-Comtat. Attached is a photocopy of the first page of a letter from Fabre to a prosecutor. It concerns the "hullabaloo" that followed his remarriage in July 1887 to his then 23-year-old maid.
