LEGROS (Georges). Set of 2 autograph letters signed as secretary of the Fabre committee. Montrichard (Loir-et-Cher), March 7 and 11 [1910], 8 pp. in-8. PREPARATION OF THE JUBILEE OF JEAN-HENRI FABRE. "One of the most glorious sons of Provence will receive the homage that his genius and his life of hard work deserve: a subscription has just been opened for the jubilee of Henri Fabre, de Sérignan, a naturalist justly famous throughout France, and perhaps even more so abroad. Would those of his compatriots who are part of Lou Peiroou want to contribute to the beautiful event that is being prepared? "(7 March). "You will find enclosed a list containing all the details of the organization and the program of the committee, and a subscription sheet in case you meet subscribers" (March 11). Biographer and fervent admirer of Jean-Henri Fabre, Doctor Victor Marie Georges Legros (1861-1940) organised a jubilee in favour of the famous naturalist which took place on 3 April 1910 in Sérignan. On this occasion, Fabre received a gold plate struck in his honour as well as the Linné Medal, the highest distinction then awarded by the Royal Academy of Stockholm. Zoologist and friend of Fabre, A. Vayssière (1854-1942) was at the time director of the Natural History Museum of Marseilles. - 2 printed and empty envelopes from the Courrier de la Presse addressed to Fabre (Paris, 19 April 1900 and 14 June 1911, stamps and postmarks) and 3 empty packages from Jean Pérez (1833-1914), professor of zoology at the Faculty of Sciences of Bordeaux, having contained brochures or dried insects, addressed to Professor Fabre, in Sérignan (Bordeaux, 17 May and 18 June 1880, 24 June 1882, stamps and postmarks).
