Three Persian ceramics Siliceous paste with polychrome decoration under a transparent colourless glaze Iran, Kashan, 13th-14th century, Ilkhanid period A large flat-lipped "Sultanabad" cup, painted in black, cobalt and turquoise on white slip. On the inside, a central medallion with a quadruped is surrounded by a frieze of mandorles and plant motifs. The exterior decoration is painted with black lines and floral friezes. A similarly decorated bowl is published in: Watson, O. (2004) Ceramics from Islamic lands, Kuwait national Museum, the Al-Sabah Collection, Thames & Hudson, cat. Q.7, p. 380. A bowl decorated with four cobalt mandorles joining in the centre to form a cross (much restored). A cup decorated with four mandorles and interlacing, and a frieze of calligraphy on the marli.
