Teapot with a narrative décor featuring Napoleon Bonaparte Porcelain with polychrome and gold decoration Russia, Gardner Manufacture for the Russian market, 19th century Gardner's Red Mark The flared belly is decorated with two large medallions depicting scenes from Franco-Russian history (the Treaty of Tilsit between Napoleon and Alexander I, and probably the retreat of the French army from Russia), with gilded decoration of Greek friezes and palmettes on a green background on the belly and the lid, handle and spout painted in gold.
