Persian mirror Lacquered wood Iran, 19th century This large Persian mirror with two leaves has an exterior decoration called Gul-O-Bulbul (literally "Rose and Nightingale") in polylobed arcades. It opens onto a mirror surmounted by a painting fixed under glass representing two birds on a floral background in a poly-lobed arcade, in a lacquered wooden frame with floral decoration. On the interior decoration of the two leaves are two full-length portraits of a courtier and a richly dressed courtesan holding a flower, depicted in medallions on a Gul-O-Bulbul floral background.
