Two composite lamp holders - Lot 145
Two composite lamp holders Bronze Iran, probably Khorassan, late 12th century, Seljuk period The first in four elements (including two elements of the shaft glued together), with a tripod base, decorated with calligraphy and medallions, with its cup with engraved decoration centred on a bird. A comparable tripod lamp holder base is published in: Melikian-Chirvani A.S. (1982), Islamic Metalwork from the Iranian World, 8-18th centuries, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, cat.22, p. 89. The second has an engraved decoration of cartouches and calligraphic medallions, at the base forming a bell, with its cup with a central decoration engraved with a harpy. Three oil lamps are added, one with a lid forming a cat's head (handle missing), the other two with double pourers.
