Ornament of 'Alam Brass India, Deccan, 18th-19th century Alams or processional banners are widely used in the Shia world, especially during events related to the Ashura ritual commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hossein. Made of brass, consisting of three high rays scalloped in the upper part, partly decorated with engravings, and adorned with four dragon heads. On its base. A Shi'a processional standard of the same shape is preserved in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of New York (Inv. 2013.37). H_51 cm, 56 (with base)
