Silver perfume box. - Lot 162
Silver perfume box. India, probably Deccan, 18th century This perfume container consists of a pedestal-mounted cup, in the centre of which is fixed a small receptacle with a lid designed to hold the perfumes (rose water, sandalwood, musk or jasmine). The bowl is decorated with deep gadroons evoking flower petals, and with a chiseled decoration of plant and floral friezes. The bowl with its gadrooned lid also evokes a flower. Traces of inscriptions partly erased under the base. For a comparable example, see Noskoff J. A. et Stassart C. (dir.), Mughal silver magnificence (XVI-XIXth C.), Antalga, Bruxelles,1987, n°101, p. 88. H_8 cm D_12.5 cm 165 grams
