Element of armour char aina Acid-etched steel, later gilding Iran, 19th century The armour known as char aina, was composed of four or five elements like this one, linked together by ties, placed around the torso and back of the soldiers. This steel element is decorated with acid-etched decoration of floral, animal and portrait motifs in mandorles in a central cartouche, framed by calligraphic friezes. Gilding highlights were added later on the calligraphy, portraits and animals. At the four corners, loops were used to hold the brackets in place. 23.9 cm x 18 cm
