Pair of singing bowls. Alloy of seven metals. Tibet. H_ 11.6 cm D_ 27.2 cm H_ 12.5 cm D_ 29.5 cm These singing bowls, mysterious tools originating from the Himalayan regions, are part of very ancient traditions. They were reputed to be used during shamanic rituals, and are still widespread as meditation instruments, based on the vibrations produced by their singing, triggered by striking them with a mallet. Traditionally, they are made from an alloy of seven metals (gold, silver, copper, tin, iron, mercury and lead), and are often said to have therapeutic properties.
