CHINA, Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Important sculpture of Shakyamuni Buddha in chased, lacquered and gilded bronze. He is shown seated in padmasana and wearing the robe, his naked torso engraved with a swastika. The base is independent, lotiform and finely decorated. The right hand in bhumisparsamudra, gesture of taking the earth as a witness, the left hand in dhyanamudra. The dharmachakra, wheel of the law, is engraved under each sole of the foot. H_52 cm (total) W_33 cm D_22 cm, some wear of red lacquer and wear of gilding Provenance: French private collection, Nice.
