WELTE-MIGNON (Freiburg im Breisgau), circa... - Lot 508 - Métayer-Mermoz Maison de Ventes aux Enchères Nevers
WELTE-MIGNON (Freiburg im Breisgau), circa 1905-1908. Mechanical piano of the Welte Kabinet type. Carved wood, blackened wood veneer and brass applications. Glazed parts. H_148,5 cm W_169 cm D_74 cm. Provenance : Hôtel Lutetia, Paris. This piano adorned for decades the entrance of the Lutetia, near the Conciergerie. We enclose about eighty rolls of scores for player piano, in their cases. The development of the Mignon piano from the Welte firm in Freiburg and its appearance on the market was a revolution. This was the first player piano to work with music rolls, and it was possible to play back the classical pieces recorded by the greatest musicians of the time in the studio. A similar piano is preserved in the collections of the Technisches Museum in Vienna, and another one is reproduced on an advertisement of the firm's time. Sold by appointment, this piece of furniture will be delivered to our furniture repository in Nevers
