CALLIGRAPHY MANUSCRIPT. - [Souvenir album]. Poetic manuscript given to Jane Bruntone. 1852-1858. In-8 oblong of 47 handwritten leaves, and a few blank leaves, green chagrin, on the first plate geometrical decoration in cold, punctuated with points and brass fleurons, brass figure in the center, clasp, lining and green moire endpapers (Label stationery Mandar, Vallart Sr de Pirmet, Paris) Delightful calligraphy manuscript, composed for Jane Brunton, probably by her mother, then by her father. The first page is signed E. V. and dated "Vivier les Ruines, June 1852". It contains, in the first part, the copy of variously chosen poems, in English with their French translation, each opening on a title nicely calligraphed and illuminated in gold: "Ma Tante", by Isabelle Campbell Brunton; "La Voix paternelle" by the Marquis de Foudras; "Les Voix amies", by J. Rodier ("silver medal at the competition of 1844 at the Academy of Bordeaux"), "Bonne fille et bonne mère" by Louise Moreau, "L'Enfant et le pauvre" by M. Desbordes-Valmore... Follows various poems, several signed John Brunton, the first is dated "Paris, June 1, 1855": "You want dear child that on this book, each friend writes you a word ..."; others signed Athanase Coquerel including the long poems "Tea and coffee" and "Letter from a rat in Paris to a rat in Spitzbergen". Adorned with 2 reproductions of the book.
