JACOB DESMALTER. Exceptional suite of twelve... - Lot 314 - Métayer-Mermoz Maison de Ventes aux Enchères Nevers
JACOB DESMALTER. Exceptional suite of twelve waxed beech and walnut molded and stained chairs. The front legs are "à la Jacob", the back legs saber-shaped. The backs are "chalice-shaped". All twelve chairs feature furniture storage numbers on the waistband. Eight chairs are stamped with the Château de Fontainebleau fire mark. Three chairs are only stamped "JACOB.D R.MESLEE". One chair bears only the Château de Fontainebleau mark. Empire period. H_88 cm W_44 cm D_47 cm. These chairs come from a series of sixty chairs commissioned from Jacob Desmalter rue Meslée and delivered to the Château de Fontainebleau in May 1806. They were intended for use in workrooms, stables and dining rooms. Stencilled numbers testify to the presence of these chairs at the château, during the inventories of 1817 and 1833. Very good condition, with slight signs of use.
