English school, second half of the 19th century. Portrait of Princess Sophie Mathilde of Gloucester (Windsor Castle, 1783-1810), youngest daughter of King George III, probably after William Beechey. Miniature on ivory. H_7.3 cm L_5.8 cm (when viewed). Gross weight: 110 grams. Bears an apocryphal signature and date on the reverse: "Charlotte Jones/pinxit/1802". On the reverse, extract from an English sales catalog describing it, n°451. In pencil "July 28". Provenance: acquired in Great Britain; coll. Paul Fourché (1840-1922) then by descent. Expert: N.
