19th century French school, after Mme de MIRBEL. Presumed portrait of Elodie de Beauvilliers de St Aignan, Princess of Chalais, three-quarter-length to the right in a low-cut black velvet gown, against a background of purple curtains raised over a landscape. Miniature on ivory, annotated right: D'ap. Mme de Mirbel; rect. H_10.3 cm W_9 cm. Large molded brass frame with floral decoration and hanging chains, rect. H_22.1 cm W_23.2 cm, for the frame. Gross weight: 371 grams. Handwritten identification on reverse: "Elodie de Beauvilliers/ de St Aignan/ daughter of the Duc de Beauvilliers/ married to Hélie de /Périgord, Prince de Chalais"/ "Miniature/ by Mme de Mirbel". Crazing, one crack restored, small breaks to lower corners. Circa 1830-1850. Provenance: coll. Paul Fourché (1840-1922) then by descent. Expert: N. Lemoine-Bouchard, member of SFEP; a Cic will be issued, not allowing export outside the European Union.
