CAMILLE GAUTHIER (1877-1963) & EDMOND LOMBARD (1864-1931). "Flight of a butterfly over umbels and water lilies, 1901. An identical example in the Musée de l'École de Nancy. Living-room cabinet, forming a display case, in ribbed, molded and carved walnut and burr ash veneer. The lower part, with lateral jambs generously carved in the arborescent style and dividing into brackets on the poly-lobed top, opens into a full door, topped by a niche and with spandrels carved with clematis, receiving a panel of embossed leather, engraved and formerly polychromed with the title scene. The curved top, resting on an ash-veneered polylobed shelf and crowned with floral motifs in the round, opens through a glass door housing a glass shelf and an ash-veneered back. Signed and located Camil(le) GAUTHIER Nancy, inscribed on the base rail, the leather panel stamped with the date-monogram E. L. 1901. Height: 196 cm - Length: 100 cm - Depth: 55 cm Condition of use, accidents and chips to the burr ash veneer on the top, partly faded polychromy on the leather panel. Public collections and related works : Musée de l'École de Nancy, Nancy - An identical display case, presented in the décor of the Salon aux Ombelles, is preserved in the collections of this institution under inventory number 997.10.1.
