Following the first Salon de l'Araignée, Charles Malexis and Pierre Mac Orlan founded Editions de La Banderole. Their artistic director is Jean-Gabriel Daragnès. The trio asked Chas to illustrate Mac Orlan's Le nègre Léonard et Maître Jean Mullin, which appears here for the first time (Monod 7560).
