                        Ganymede's torso.
The youthfully muscular hero stands in slight contrapposto.
He is wearing a chlamydia held over his shoulder by a circular fibula decorated with an eagle (Zeus) in relief. The fabric covers the shoulders and falls in wide folds down the back.
Marble.
Roman art, circa 1st century B.C. - 1st century A.D.
H_56.5 cm, restored break in the middle of the torso, visible missing parts.
Provenance: Galerie Michel Cohen, place des Vosges, Paris - French private collection of Mr. and Mrs. C., acquired on the art market before 1986.
Our torso was the subject of a value update by Michel Cohen in 1986, as a Hermes torso.
