LEGRAS ET Compagnie (attributed to). - Lot 123
LEGRAS ET Compagnie (attributed to). Large Art-Nouveau baluster vase in blown glass in imitation of aventurine, decorated with thistles painted in matte green and gold, attached to the muffle, mounted as a lamp. Circa 1900. H_60 cm This vase is similar to the "aventurine" glass produced by the Legras workshops in St-Denis for the prestigious Montjoye range. During this period, Josef Riedel and Ferdinand von Poschinger in Bohemia and Germany were also producing this type of glass, but their stylistic traits were much more fluid. Our example also features a Lorraine thistle decoration, an important element since François-Théodore Legras recruited most of his glassmakers in Lorraine. This piece is particularly rare for its size, as the numerous flakes contained in the material (intended to reproduce the fuchsite inclusions of aventurine) make the glass very unstable when hot, and blowing a large piece is technically particularly complex.
