Rare "à la nourrice" clock in chased, gilded and patinated bronze, depicting an African nursemaid. The dial is set in a sugarcane bundle, encircled by a braided rope. It is supported on the head of a black woman, her eyes enamelled, her headdress and loincloth imitating feathers. Around her neck, she holds her young child asleep in a bassinet under a blanket.
