Crossbow chest of drawers in veneered marquetry opening with - Lot 406
Crossbow chest of drawers in veneered marquetry opening with four drawers in three rows. Gilt bronze ornamentation and marble top. Stamped FG for François Garnier, one of the first members of the jury of the Parisian cabinetmakers' community, from 1742 to 1744. Louis XV period. H_84 cm - W_130 cm - D_65 cm, veneering accidents and missing parts. Father of the famous cabinetmaker Pierre Garnier, François Garnier worked on rue du Faubourg-Saint Antoine, where he was a member of the corporation of cabinetmakers from 1742 to 1744. Stamping was not compulsory during his early career, so few works can be attributed to him with any certainty. However, the signed furniture we do find shows great attention to detail and real talent. He died in Paris in 1774 on rue des Moineaux.
