This watch features a mechanism that contributed to the development of self-winding calibers with oscillating weight. The principle of the bumper caliber is similar to that of an automatic movement with oscillating weight: a weight subjected to gravity oscillates to wind the movement. This technology was patented by British watchmaker John Harwood. However, it does not perform a complete rotation, as springs strike the mass to continuously return it.
