Cornelis SCHUT (Antwerp 1597- 1655). The Trinity surrounded by putti. Pen and brown ink, brown wash over black pencil lines. H_18.9 cm W_16.8 cm, curved at top Lined drawing, slightly insolate, small stains at bottom and small hole at top right. Annotated in black pencil on the mount in the lower center "Diepenbeeck". Our drawing can be compared with another of similar subject, technique and composition in a private collection (see RKD online). We know of an engraving by Rombout Eynhoudts, in the opposite direction and with the same subject, after a destroyed painting by Cornélis Schmidt. destroyed painting by Cornélis Schut, formerly housed in the Jesuit Church in Cologne (see:s, G.Wilmers, Cornelis Schut, a flemish painter of the high baroque, Brepolp, Belgium, p.389, fig.A74, rep.
