Rare first edition, translated by Baron d'Holbach from German, illustrated with a frontispiece and 15 folding copper plates, of this bible of the art of glassmaking. Includes a translation of the important treatise by Antonio Neri, a Florentine priest and glassmaker: "L'arte vetraria distinta in libri sette", published in 1612. The work covers all aspects of glassmaking, from the manufacture of glass, crystal and colored glass to the imitation of precious stones and the production of Chinese and Saxon porcelain; it also includes considerations and methods for gilding iron, texts on metals and their uses, recipes for colors and dyes... Armorial ex libris of Boisset Glassac pasted on the front cover and inscribed in pen on the title page. Corners and spines dulled.
