PERIODICALS. Perau, de Querlon, Barbazan, Graville, de Laporte, etc. COLLECTION 20 in-12° volumes in full marbled calf, richly decorated smooth spines, from 1752 with addresses in Fontenoy (A), Luxembourg (B), Paris, (C), Luxembourg (D), Paris, (Chaubert et Hérissant, from E to Y), Bruxelles (Z). These collections feature a mixture of letters, replies, extracts, translations, plays, songs, paintings, apologies, speeches, poetry, etc. A table of contents appears at the beginning or end of each volume. In the disclaimer to volume B, it is stated that "the collection published in 1745 under the title recueil A and composed of pieces of history, anecdotal facts, and a few other fugitive writings announced a sequel, even a very forthcoming one: but here is the seventh year that it has made us wait for it uselessly. Now, as the author of volume A has probably left the field open to us, and the right to continue belongs to the first occupant, we believe ourselves sufficiently authorized by his inaction to give volume B...". In the foreword to volume C, published again 7 years after the previous one: "A had been read "avidly", B, with its long, ponderous articles, had been less successful; the public demanded "not long pieces of erudition, intended only for scholars, but varied and interesting subjects, done with taste". The texts presented in these collections were published between 1547 and 1751, and are often presented without any sense of chronology or thematic focus. Nevertheless, the diversity of subjects covered (political, historical, artistic) enables these volumes to give a picture of the times. Collections A, J, V, W are missing. Beautiful set, uniformly bound. Fresh interiors.
