DANIEL ROTH. - Lot 38
DANIEL ROTH. Retrograde, ref. 2127, number 26. Circa 1990. Wristwatch in 18k (750) yellow gold. Elliptical case, fluted bezel, clipped back, signed. Engine-turned dial, Arabic numerals, off-center second hand, signed. Automatic movement. Gold pin buckle. Size: 38 x 35 mm. Gross weight: 94.00 g. Provenance: Amateur collection. Trained at the Nice watchmaking school, Daniel Roth is one of the most elegant names in independent watchmaking in the 1990s. Initially a watchmaker with Audemars Piguet, Daniel Roth was quickly spotted by the Chaumet brothers, who entrusted him with the task of relaunching Breguet in the 1980s. In 1988, Daniel Roth created his own brand and developed an aesthetic vocabulary as chic as it was recognizable: ellipse cases, fluted carrures and guilloché dials. Acquired by LVMH in 2023, the brand has made a strong comeback in recent seasons. This "antique" model, bearing the number 26, was one of the first pieces made by Daniel Roth. In November 2024, a similar model in platinum bearing the number 22 was sold in Hong Kong. CONDITION REPORT (for information only): Movement operational at time of catalog writing. Good state of preservation. Few signs of use. Overhaul recommended. Please note that all watches are sold as is. No warranty on functioning. Most watches have been opened to identify movement type and quality, including water-resistant watches, so the buyer is advised to consult a watchmaker to review the water-resistance of the watch.
