BREGUET. - Lot 140
BREGUET.
N° 3559 / 2593B3559.
Circa 1821.
Gold pocket watch, guilloché back, gilt metal bowl signed "Breguet Horloger de la Marine Royale n° 3559", numbered.
Enamel dial, Arabic numerals, signed "A. Garnier" and "Breguet et Fils".
Mechanical movement with key winding.
Diameter: 57 mm.
Gross weight: 142.50 g.
Provenance: Amateur collection.
The archives of Breguet SA attest that a "simple gold watch with two hands, 23 lines" bearing the number 3559 was sold to Mr. Le Conardel on March 12, 1821. The "Garnier" signature on the dial, on the other hand, probably dates from a later date. In fact, the company's records confirm that this watch returned to Breguet in 1908 and belonged to a certain Mr. Garnier. In addition, the cuvette appears to have been replaced, as the font and engraving do not correspond to the period.
We would like to thank Montres Breguet SA, and especially Mr. Emmanuel Breguet, for providing us with this archive information.
