BEAUCHASTEAU (François Mathieu Chastelet Le Petit de). La Lyre du jeune Apollon ou la Muse naissance du Petit de Beauchasteau. Dedicated to the King. Paris, Chez l'Auteur, 1659, 1 vol. 2nd edition enlarged with 20 portraits of the century's leading figures, including Louis XIV, the Duc d'Anjou, Mlle de Montpensier, the Prince de Conti, the Prince of Savoy, the Princesse Royale de Savoie, the Duchesse de Bavière, etc. In-4 bound in fawn calf, five-ribbed spine, fillets and title-piece decorated in gold, title-piece on red morocco. Illustrated with a number of culs-de-lampe, a frontispiece with a portrait of the author after Frosne and nineteen other portraits of illustrious figures of the period hors-texte, a vignette with the coat of arms of the King of France, five wood-engraved bands and three wood-engraved lettrines. Some foxing, spines and nerves faded. The work is in two parts with separate pagination. It opens with an epistle by the author dedicated to the king, followed by a preface by Monsieur Maynard (king's advisor), and nearly sixty pieces in praise of the young poet, composed by forty-five authors and courtiers. The second part opens with a sonnet dedicated to the king, followed by numerous pieces, epigrams and madrigals dedicated to personalities or authors of the time.
