Charles de Croÿ (1560-1612), a powerful lord of northern France, was responsible for the publication of this vast documentary on all his domains, covering a vast area of northern France and present-day Belgium, from the former principalities of Artois, Hainaut and Namur to the Duchy of Aarschot, via the Escaut, Lys and Sambre valleys.
