Albert-Ernest CARRIER-BELLEUSE (1824-1887). Angelica in chains. Large sculpture in Carrara marble, signed. H_69 cm W_33 cm D_29 cm. Angelica is depicted chained to a rock to be devoured by a sea monster, from which she is rescued by Roger, in one of the songs of Ariosto's Roland Furieux. The original, exhibited at the 1866 Salon, was in white marble, with copper chains. To date, three marble reductions are known to exist
