PAUL JOUVE (1878-1973) SCULPTOR (MODEL OF) & ALEXANDRE BIGOT (1862-1927) CERAMIST (BEARS) - MANUFACTURE GENTIL-BOURDET (SCARABS) - HENRI SAUVAGE (1873-1932) & CHARLES SARAZIN (1873-1950) ARCHITECTS (ATTRIBUTED TO) Very large trapezoidal mirror in molded and ribbed oak. The lower part has three reserves, each holding a beveled mirror. The upper part is barred and holds in its center a rectangular decorative cartouche in polychrome enameled stoneware featuring a [bear] by Paul Jouve, created by Alexandre Bigot from the first model of 1898 for the frieze design for the Monumental Gate of the Exposition Universelle, Paris, 1900. The entablature features four decorative cabochons of scarabs, made by Manufacture Gentil-Bourdet. Circa 1910. The sealed cartouche and decorative cabochons do not allow access to the probably marked reverse. H. 194 cm - L. 179 cm Provenance : From a very important decoration made around 1900-1910 for the Rétif family estate (horse-drawn carriage factory) in the Cher department, which was visited by many artists from the owners' circle of friends.
