Judit REIGL (1923-2020). N.Y., September 11, 2001. Acrylic and mixed media on canvas, signed and titled on the back on the stretcher and dated Sept. 12, 2001. H_180.5 cm W_131 cm A sketch appears on the back. "Watching the images on television on September 11, 2001, I, like everyone else, had a terrible shock: the destruction of the Twin Towers in New York. Then I had another - bewildered - when the bodies began to fall, because it concerned me personally. These falling bodies were exactly my pictorial problematic (since the sixties) incarnated before my eyes on the screen. Sometimes immobilized by the stillness of the image, the bodies seemed to rise as much as fall, or float in an indeterminate space."
