The "Atmos" clock owes its origins to watchmaker Jean-Léon REUTTER, who presented the first prototype in 1928, after incessant research into the workings of perpetual motion, which draws its energy from variations in temperature and atmosphere. Between 1930 and 1937, 7,001 of this version were produced in France.
From 1932 onwards, Jean-Léon REUTTER collaborated with Jaeger-Lecoultre to market his invention, who bought back his patent and perfected the clock.
