In-4 bound in half vellum decorated with cold-stamped geometric figures, wooden boards, spine ribbed, title in pen; from (40), CCCCXII pages, (4) First edition of the first published compendium of epigraphy from Europe, Asia Minor and North Africa, based on the collection of classical antiquities built up by Raimund Fugger (1489-1535), a powerful German businessman and advisor to Emperor Charles V. The inscriptions, "not only those of Rome, but of almost the whole world", according to the book's title, are organized geographically, starting with Spain, then heading east through the ancient empire, to Greece, Asia Minor, then back west along the southern shore of the Mediterranean. The work is illustrated with woodcuts: the title and initials were engraved by Hans Borosamer (c. 1500-1554); the coat of arms was engraved after drawings by Raimund Fugger by Michael Ostendorfer (1492-1559). Fresh interior. Stained vellum. Clasps missing (notches visible for this purpose in the wooden part). Upper headband worn. Last page about to detach. Marginal worm work on some leaves.
