Processional or altar cross in gilded, cast, engraved copper - Lot 393
Processional or altar cross in gilded, cast, engraved copper and champlevé enamel.
Latin cross with arms ending in fleur-de-lys.
The lower central part ends in a point.
Engraved plant motifs cover the entire surface of the cross on both sides.
The arms of the cross are decorated with oval medallions and a cartouche with the inscription IHS.
Christ is depicted in relief in the center, with the Virgin Mary to the right and Saint John on a pedestal to the left, the Thuriferous Angel above and Adam rising from the tomb below.
On the reverse, the enamel plates feature Christ and apostles' attributes.
Spain, Burgos, late 14th or early 15th century.
