Roman school circa 1600. - Lot 407
Roman school circa 1600. Presumed portrait of Cardinal de Medici. Panel (perhaps doubled) H_65.5 cm. L_52.5 cm. Faded inscription top left. Old restorations. In The Burlington Magazine, 1970, n°804, p.166 , Anthony Blunt attests that the painting "Henri IV et Alexandre de Médicis" (circa 1613-1614) now in Pau - useful for identifying the sitter of our portrait - completed the decoration of Marie de Médicis' gilded cabinet in the Palais du Luxembourg. As the cardinal (and Pope Leo XI in 1605) was the queen's cousin, this representation seems reliable. Expert: Mr. Stéphane PINTA, Cabinet Turquin Provenance: formerly Château de Parentignat, Puy-de-Dôme
