One-horse or two-horse in-line sleigh.
Iron and wrought iron, relacquered in purple and brass.
This sleigh was made in 1906, in Saint-Petersburg, especially for Monsieur Adrien de MONTGOLFIER.
Later velvet trim.

Adrien de Montgolfier (Pierre-Louis-Adrien de Montgolfier-Verpilleux,dit) (1831-1913) had been going to Russia every year since 1904 to manage the Krivoï Rog mines and steelworks.
He was a French civil engineer, businessman and politician, first as a member of parliament and then as a senator.
He was director of the forges and steelworks of the French Navy and administrator of Krivoï-Rog.
It was in this capacity that he ordered the sled for ease of travel, and brought it back to France by rail in 1911.
