Voyage fait par ordre du Roi depuis 1774 jusqu'à 1781, dans lequel on traite des mœurs, de la religion, des sciences et des arts des Indiens et des Chinois, des Pégouins, et des Madégasses, suivis d'observations sur le Cap de Bonne espérance, les Iles de France et de Bourbons, les Maldives, Ceylan, Malacca, les philipinnes, et les moluques, et recherches sur l'histoire naturelle de ces pays. Second edition published the same year as the original. Reputedly accurate account of the second voyage to Asia by Pierre Sonnerat, French naturalist and explorer (1748-1814). The first three books are devoted to India, including Pondicherry, Sirate, the Coromandel and Malabar coasts, and Indian customs, religion, science and art. The fourth book relates his travels to China, Burma, Madagascar, Mauritius and Reunion, the Cape of Good Hope, the Maldives, Ceylon, Malacca, the Philippines and the Mollusks. The natural history of these different countries is the subject of the fifth book. Decorated with folding engraved plates. Spine of third volume slightly worn, binding rubbed with scattered spotting. Fresh interior. Pleasant set.
