Intended to be sung, these prayers were intended to unite Protestants and strengthen their identity. Bound at the end is an edition of the form of the prayers by Calvin (1509-1564), first published in 1542; and an edition of the catechism, also published in 154, and differing in form from its first writing in 1547, which was too difficult for children. This catechism, known as the Geneva Catechism, takes the form of a dialogue and a succession of questions and answers, simplifying the doctrinal complexities. Pen-and-ink bookplate. Cover rubbed, corners dulled, gilt faded. Mottling.
