ARCHITECTURE] BLONDEL (François)] Cours d'architecture enseigné à l'académie royale, Paris, Lambert Roulland, Pierre Auboin and François Clouzier, 1675-1683 Five parts bound in two in-folio volumes in full red morocco, gilded fillets on covers, spine ribbed with I: frontispiece, title page, (24) epistle, preface, speech, privilege) then 152 pages, 25 plates, (1), (4) table; frontispiece, title page, (10), 312 pages, 1 folding plate; II: frontispiece, title, (14) printer's note, privilege, table, errors to be corrected, then pages 313 to 799 pages, (1) First part explaining the terms, origin and principles of architecture, and the practices of the five orders according to the doctrine of Vitruvius and his principal followers, and that of the three most skilful architects who have written among the moderns, Vignole, Palladio and Scamozzi; bound in the second and third parts. Rare first edition with 25 plates (numbered I to XXIV and one unnumbered). Engraved frontispiece, bandeaux, lettrines and culs-de-lampe by La Boissière. Second and third parts illustrated with a copper-engraved frontispiece, and over 110 engraved figures in the text, as well as a beautiful engraving by Jean Baptiste Broebes. The second volume contains the fourth, fifth and last parts of the architecture course. Rich engraved iconography in the text and on full pages. Label of the Léonce Laget bookshop in Paris. Some scuffing to binding. Binding of second volume stained. Some wetness in margins. Ex-libris in pen on second volume (unidentified). Binding of first volume fresher than that of second. Rare set.
