Early 18th century French school.
The Coronation of Stanislas Leszczynski (1677-1766) and Catherine Opalinska (1682-1747).
Gouache on vellum.
Bears a full-length signature (to be deciphered).
H_38 cm W_29.5 cm
Inscription: "Stanislas Leszczynski et Catherine Opalinska ont estéz couronnez à Varsovie le 4 octobre 1704 et ont regné en Pologne".
Coat of arms: Leszczynski arms on the left with a wieniawa (crowned buffalo head with arrow), Opalinska arms on the right.
Note: Stanislas Leszczynski was twice King of Poland (1704-1709, 1733-1736), Duke of Lorraine and Bar (1737-1766).
Father of Queen Marie Leszczynska, he was great-grandfather to three French kings: Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X.
