BREVET DE MAÎTRE DE CANNE. P.S. by 16 maîtres de canne, Navarin June 1, 1829. Rare brevet de maître de canne issued in Greece during the Morée expedition. It is awarded to Claude François Rivière, sergeant in the 54 th Régiment de Ligne, and signed by the other officers of the regiment, maîtres de canne. This superb document is calligraphed, with a large pencil decoration, by the Italian Laurent Ferreri, who signed it. The decoration depicts military trophies, with crossed canes, and is surmounted by a medallion depicting Emperor Napoleon with the imperial eagle (which would have been forbidden in France).
