LALAN (XIE Jinglan dite, Chinese artist, 1921-1995). - Lot 109
LALAN (XIE Jinglan dite, Chinese artist, 1921-1995). The Dancer - 1969. Oil on canvas, signed and dated on the back. Annotated "les mots muses" (?) on the stretcher. H_83 cm L_65 cm In a natural wood baguette frame. Provenance: Private collection in the South of France. Note: Lalan's first artistic period, between 1957 and 1969, featured abstract compositions with flowing, complex calligraphic lines enhanced by the use of simple colors. Xie Jinglan nurtured her creativity at the École Normale de Musique and the Centre Communautaire Américain in Paris. She married French sculptor Marcel Van Thienen in 1958. "Unable to live without painting", and a former professional dancer, her work honors the gesture of the brush with sensitivity and delicacy.
